Thu, May 30,2024 07:52:45PM EST
"Clearing this certification hurdle is a major step forward in providing European CJ customers with a solution that not only enhances their aircraft operations but can also extend the life and functionality of an aircraft. This milestone underscores Collins'commitment to supporting the global network of CJ operators with the flight deck technology that makes operations safer, more efficient and predictable each and every flight."Source: Nathan Voight, vice president and general manager, Business and Regional Avionics at Collins Aerospace, following the EASA Approval of the Pro Line Fusion system for Citation CJ1+/2+ Aircraft.

ANN's Daily Aero-Term (05.28.24): Permanent Echo
Thu, May 30,2024 07:52:42PM EST
Permanent Echo Radar signals reflected from fixed objects on the earth's surface; e.g., buildings, towers, terrain. Permanent echoes are distinguished from “ground clutter” by being definable locations rather than large areas. Under certain conditions they may be used to check radar alignment.

Airborne-NextGen 05.21.24: ‘Liberty Lifter’, Cavorite Flies!, Eurodrone
Thu, May 30,2024 07:52:35PM EST
Also: AMA National Fun Fly, Skyfire SF2, Echodyne Gets BVLOS, Av Meteorology Reference General Atomics'run at developing the Liberty Lifter ground effect aircraft has been put to rest, with their competitor, Aurora Flight Sciences, retaining theirs for the time being. The Liberty Lifter is one funky duck, as far as prospective military projects go. Looking forward to a contentious Pacific theater, DoD planners see a dire need for seaborne transport, beyond the old school's island-hopping and airstrip-chopping. Hybrid eVTOL manufacturer, or better said, developer, showed off its latest flight test using a smaller scaled version of its high-wing Cavorite X5. The short tethered test flight shows the Cavorite take off from a standstill, lifting off and testing its behavior as it gently moves through a handful of power settings and control checks. The Eurodrone program has successfully performed a Preliminary Design Review (PDR). With Airbus Defence and Space as prime contractor, this milestone has been completed with OCCAR and representatives of the four customer nations. Airborne 05.24.24: NPS Kills Rushmore Flyover, VAI v NYC, New Reno Home-Roswell!
Thu, May 30,2024 07:52:30PM EST
Also: Samson Sky, CAF Great Plains Wing, New Cert Standards, Flying Start Day There are, occasionally, blisteringly dunderheaded bits of governmental incompetence to be found with increasing regularity... but the most recent move by the Nat'l Parks Service leaves us shaking our heads and a bit ashamed of Uncle Sam. The leaders of the Arsenal of Democracy consortium had planned to execute a World War II aircraft flyover at Mount Rushmore on Memorial Day to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. It would have been grand... and NOT a sight to miss. Vertical Aviation International is worried that an NYC helicopter port is in danger of permanent closure courtesy of a recently introduced piece of legislation. The legislation, A.10224/S.9408 by Simone & Hoylman, would permanently close the West 30th Street Heliport (KJRA) within New York City's Hudson River Park. The Reno Air Racing Association (RARA) has selected Roswell, NM as the new home of the National Championship Air Races (NCAR). Following a lengthy selection process by RARA, and after demonstrating its commitment to carry forward this one-of-a-kind event, Roswell has been chosen to host the return of the air races in 2025. The event will continue to feature seven classes of racing, static displays, military demonstrations and more. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!

Airborne-Flight Training 05.29.24: Coe College, NetJets Issues, Wayman Financing
Thu, May 30,2024 07:52:21PM EST
Also: VA Scholarships, Certification Standards, 'Staff the Towers', Women in Aviation Advisory In partnership with Revv Aviation and the Eastern Iowa Airport (CID), Coe College is opening a new flight school and aviation management program. Those interested in becoming a professional pilot can complete their certification while enrolled as students within Coe's new aviation management concentration. Just as they got themselves a new contract, things spiraled out of control as the NetJets Association of Shared Aircraft Pilots claimed, "Managers use intimidation, aggressive interrogation tactics to silence the Union's voice."Scarcely a few weeks passed since the parties sat down at the bargaining table and inked a 5-year pilot contract, something all expected would put the very acrimonious relationship on the back burner until time for negotiations arose anew. Stratus Financial and Wayman Aviation Academy have joined forces to deliver customized financing that are reportedly tailored specifically for Wayman Aviation Academy's students. Wayman Aviation Academy is a flight school based in Miami, Florida, specializing in comprehensive pilot training programs. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!

Airborne-Flight Training 05.23.24: Ray Scholarships, WCA Awards, Air Charter
Thu, May 30,2024 07:52:14PM EST
Also: ALPA Warns, ASA Updates Training Logs, Florida Teen Scholarship, Aviation Meteorology The EAA Ray Aviation Scholarship program has seen its 500th student pilot graduate helped along the way, marking off a significant milestone for the group's most widely useful scholarship. The Ray Scholarship is funded by the Ray Foundation, but managed by EAA. That allows it to source candidates through its network of EAA chapters. Women in Corporate Aviation has announced the recipients of its Spring Scholarship Program, noting that they've had a record amount of applications in the last year. All in all, WCA saw more than 300 applicants for the scholarship, meaning the group also needed a record number of graders to assess just who was most deserving of the honors. The Air Charter Association is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a new sponsored internship program. It has been termed the ACA 75 Internship Program, and will offer a 3.5-month stint where youths 18 to 25 get "expert training, hands-on work experience, a competition project, and a networking and awards presentation event."All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!

Airborne 05.28.24: Jump Plane Down, Starship's 4th, Vision Jet Problems
Thu, May 30,2024 07:52:03PM EST
Also: uAvionix AV-Link, F-16 Viper Demo, TN National Guard, 'Staff the Towers'A Saturday afternoon jump run, originating from SkyDive Kansas City, went bad when it was reported that, "a Skydiver premature parachute deployment at 14,000 msl damag(ed) the tail section."The turbine-upgraded Cessna 206, N29173, was abandoned by the pilot, who made a safe and successful jump, though the aircraft is a total loss. The parachute-equipped jump pilot exited the aircraft after all six jumpers had cleared the aircraft. The fourth flight test of Starship could launch as soon as June 5, pending regulatory approval. SpaceX notes that Starship’s third flight test made tremendous strides towards a future of rapidly reliable reusable rockets with the test completing several exciting firsts, including the first Starship reentry from space, the first ever opening and closing of Starship’s payload door in space, and a successful propellant transfer demonstration. There's been a swath of accidents featuring Cirrus's much-maligned single-engine jet aircraft... and again, it seems that the bird is having problems on the ground... a lot of problems. On Thursday, May 23rd, Cirrus SF50, N83MR, experienced a brake failure while taxiing to the ramp, veering off the runway and striking a runway light. Two days earlier, another SF50 demonstrated why it is not a good seaplane when N18YF, Vision Jet G2+ Xi, experienced an apparent taxiway excursion and came to rest inthe water... Airborne 05.22.24: NS-25 Chute Failure, #HonorTheWASP, SkyCourier 'Combi'
Thu, May 30,2024 07:51:57PM EST
Also: VAI v Anti-Heli Actions, Electric Aircraft Symposium, 2024 FAA Drone/AAM Symposium, Gravitymaster Blue Origin's seventh passenger flight ended with a smidgeon of drama when one of its 3 parachutes failed to fully deploy, forcing it to rely on its remaining 2 units. That's not the worst system failure in the world, since the triple-chute system sports redundancy as a baseline, but it's always a little discomfiting to rely on a backup whenever parachutes are involved. Women in Aviation International (WAI) members and friends will honor the valiant service of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) by visiting their graves and leaving an appropriate decoration in the form of flowers or other remembrances. Textron has been granted certification of a new interior conversion for SkyCouriers, allowing operators to carry 9 pax and a load of cargo at the same time. Cessna is hoping that their new high-wing twin turboprop will find some stable footing in the market once released. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!

The SportPlane Resource Guide RETURNS!!!!
Thu, May 30,2024 07:51:36PM EST
Emphasis On Growing The Future of Aviation Through Concentration on 'AFFORDABLE FLYERS'It's been a number of years since the Latest Edition of Jim Campbell's HUGE SportPlane Resource Guide first saw the light of day. That massive 1100 page book last featured over 800 exciting sport aircraft from all over the SportPlane universe... at a time when the SportPlane industry was still a healthy, thriving enterprise (those were the days...). While there has been some consideration, off and on, toward updating the nearly 5 pound book, the near implosion of the SportPlane and kit industry over the last decade has made such a pursuit an unwieldy one... until now.
