Wed, Aug 28,2024 07:55:41PM EST
En Route Low Altitude Charts Provide aeronautical information for en route instrument navigation (IFR) in the low altitude stratum. Information includes the portrayal of airways, limits of controlled airspace, position identification and frequencies of radio aids, selected airports, minimum en route and minimum obstruction clearance altitudes, airway distances, reporting points, restricted areas, and related data. Area charts, which are a part of this series, furnish terminal data at a larger scale in congested areas.

Airborne-NextGen 08.27.24: Drone Seeks Amelia, Starliner, Joby USAF Demo
Wed, Aug 28,2024 07:55:22PM EST
Also: Drone Finds Runaway, ZeroAvia, Lilium Begins Integration, AgEagle Aerial Systems The Discovery Channel recently released a documentary titled “Finding Amelia”. It showcases an expedition to unearth the fate of legendary aviator Amelia Earhart, which was conducted using drone-mounted magnetometers. In 1937, Amelia Earhart disappeared over the Pacific Ocean while attempting a round-the-world flight. If she had been successful, she would have become the first person to circumnavigate the globe around the equator. Numerous research teams have organized missions and created theories on the cause of her disappearance, but the remains of her and her aircraft have yet to be discovered. NASA has confirmed that the Boeing Starliner will make its flight home, autonomously, without astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams. As a reminder, Wilmore and Williams flew to the International Space Station in June for what was supposed to be an eight-day stay. Instead, due to several leaks and thruster issues, they have yet to return. Joby Aviation has successfully demonstrated autonomous aircraft operations with the U.S. Air Force. The aircraft completed fully autonomous tasks over 9 locations during the ‘Agile Flag 24-3’ exercise. In June, it acquired Xwing’s autonomy division, permitting it to further develop autonomy technology. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-NextGen!!!

Also: Solar Riser, NS-26 Mission Scheduled, Avionics Smuggling, SpaceX v Telecoms NASA has confirmed that the Boeing Starliner will make its flight home without astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams. Wilmore and Williams flew to the International Space Station in June for what was supposed to be an eight-day stay. Instead, due to several leaks and thruster issues, they have yet to return. A KC-46A Pegasus from McConnell Air Force Base had an incident while refueling an F-15. The cause and scope of the mishap are under investigation. The tanker involved is a part of the 931st Air Refueling Wing. After the incident, units commented that the aircraft declared an emergency near Travis Air Force Base in California. They were able to execute a landing with the boom still down. In a recent software update, Dynon announced that they will be adding an Emergency Glide feature to their avionics. This is compatible with the SkyView HDX software. The addition of the Emergency Glide tech is a part of Dynon’s version 17.1, which was released on August 20. Another main upgrade in this version is with their SV-COM-PANEL Com Radio Control Panel. It features a new, high-contrast OLED display for improved pilot visibility. Airborne 08.23.24: Global 7500 Records, Cirrus Problems, Plane Homes
Wed, Aug 28,2024 07:55:09PM EST
Also: Naples Relocation, New Helo Unit, Unruly PAX v FAA, AAM at NBAA-BACE Time for a little bizjet bragging... Bombardier announced that its Global 7500 business jet keeps on setting speed records by reaching more than 50 records in less than 50 weeks. Some of the essential city-pair records are impressive, including London to Bahrain, Miami to São Paulo, Tokyo to Los Angeles, and Jeddah to London. As if all the Cirrus Jet problems weren’t enough, the FAA has just issued an Airworthiness Concern Sheet after it received a report of a power lever failure on a Cirrus SR20 aircraft. During takeoff while the pilot advanced the power lever to full throttle, the power lever sheared off and the pilot quickly cut off fuel to the aircraft and aborted the takeoff. The operator of the fleet subsequently inspected the remainder of the aircraft and found cracks in 24 of the levers. In Big Lake, Alaska, a former commercial pilot is turning out-of-service jets into the Four Seasons of Aviation. Two accommodations are currently on site, including a McDonnell Douglas DC-6 and DC-9. The man behind the plan is Jon Kotwicki, a flight school owner and commercial pilot. In 2018, he founded a flight and ground school called FLY8MA. Also: Hartzell Preheat, El Al Buys More Maxes, Aviation Discovery Fest, Montaer Australia The U.S. Marine Corps accepted the last of the VH-92A presidential helicopters built by Sikorsky in a recent ceremony in the company’s Owego, New York, modification facility. Helicopters built by Sikorsky have flown every U.S. president since 1957. It is a modified version of the company’s commercial S-92 helicopter. Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Whale Protection Unit completed an investigation on River Road Films’ drone operations resulting in a $30,000 fine for the company and their drone operator for not maintaining proper distance from Northern Resident Killer Whales. Fisheries and Oceans Canada has mandates in place to protect marine life. One of the busiest general aviation airports in the region is Teterboro (KTEB) in New Jersey. It’s hard to believe some adult anti-aviation influence isn’t a part of this, but as is happening more frequently these days, some of the people who live there say they’re growing weary of the noise -despite how long the airport preceded their residency. And they’re trying to do something about it using the Girl Scouts. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!

XB-1 continues to progress through its flight test program and providing a foundation for the development of Overture, the company’s supersonic airliner. The landing gear was cycled through retraction and extension for the first time, successfully -- and other tasks. Be careful what you tell the FAA... even on your medical application... A federal jury has convicted Olukayode Aduragbenro Ojo, 36, of Dallas, TX, of two counts of making a false statement to the FAA to obtain a medical certificate necessary to pilot a commercial passenger aircraft. A class action has been filed against CrowdStrike Holdings following a systemwide software outage in late July. This left thousands of travelers with canceled flights, leaving millions of dollars in losses behind. After the outage, they published a root cause analysis stating that there had been a mismatch in the inputs passed through the content validator and those supplied to the content interpreter.
