Airborne-Unmanned 10.10.17: Boeing Buying Aurora, DJI Privacy Mode, UAS Delivery

Also: UAS Firefighting, Self-Driving Cars, Karma Drone Follows, Futuristic Unmanned Aircraft, 50-mile UTM Corridor Boeing has announced that it will acquire Aurora Flight Sciences Corporation, a company that specializes in autonomous systems technologies to “enable advanced robotic aircraft for future aerospace applications and vehicles.” Once it is officially acquired, Aurora, which is headquartered in Manassas, Virginia, will be a subsidiary under Boeing Engineering, Test & Technology, and will be known as Aurora Flight Sciences, A Boeing Company. Through this acquisition, Aurora will keep an independent operating model, while taking advantage of the resources provided by Boeing. DJI has launched a new Local Data Mode that stops internet traffic to and from its DJI Pilot app, in order to provide enhanced data privacy assurances for sensitive government and enterprise customers. Local Data Mode will be available in the next update on the DJI Pilot app on CrystalSky and for select Android tablets. When an operator activates Local Data Mode, the app will stop sending or receiving any data over the internet. Cambridge Consultants has developed DelivAir, a drone delivery concept that can deliver a package straight to the hands of its recipient. The company has achieved this through a drone delivery system that implements a patent pending two stage routing process. The delivery starts by using GPS to navigate to a user's smartphone location, periodically requesting secure location updates during the flight until it arrives within visual range. Also: PassengerDrone, FAA Reauthorization Extension, UAS Pilot Certification, Workhorse Surefly The NTSB is now offering public details of the alleged collision between a hobby drone and a US Army Blackhawk, including the fact that the drone pilot has been located... “The NTSB is investigating the Sept. 21 collision between a civilian drone and an Army UH-60 helicopter east of Staten Island, New York. At approximately 7:20 p.m. Sept. 21, the drone, or unmanned aerial vehicle, and the helicopter collided. The Army helicopter sustained damage to its main rotor blade, window frame and transmission deck. A motor and arm from a small drone, identified as a DJI Phantom 4, were recovered from the helicopter. The NTSB was notified of the incident Sept. 22 and began its investigation that day... Two years ago, the town of Orchard Park, NY passed a local ordinance that applied largely to the area around New Era Field, the home of the NFL's Buffalo Bills. The town voted Wednesday night to begin the process of rescinding the local ordinance after it was informed that only the FAA has jurisdiction over navigable airspace. The milestone aircraft, which comes just 26 months after the first Latitude entered service, will be handed over to NetJets, Inc., this week at Textron Aviation headquarters in Wichita, Kansas. “We set out to redefine this segment by investing in a new product with features our customers told us they wanted: large-cabin amenities and best-in-class operating costs. Delivering 100 Latitudes in just over two years is a testament that we’ve got the ideal combination,” said Rob Scholl, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing, Textron Aviation. Shaesta Waiz, the 30-year-old pilot of the 2017 ‘Dreams Soar’ Global Flight for STEM, touched down in Daytona Beach, Florida on October 4 in her now-well-travelled Beechcraft Bonanza A36 aircraft, completing a solo circumnavigation of the Earth. The Air Force trained and graduated the 500th F-35 Lightning II pilot across the joint and international enterprise Sept. 19, 2017, at Eglin Air Force Base. Maj. It's Official: Aggressive Upgrades For New Airborne Programs WILL Require New Digs It's been in development for years, but we're getting to a point where we think we can pull off something TRULY REMARKABLE - which will require us to make BIG CHANGES. So... ANN is officially looking for a new home for a major new initiative... hopefully, a permanent one. We are now in the implementation phases of THE most significant upgrades we've ever undertaken and preparing to make significant operational modifications to accomodate them. As a result, we're currently inviting proposals for a NEW airport/office studio facility to serve as a home base and studio for new programming about to be introduced by the Aero-News Network, Inc., the Aviation World's Real-Time News and Information Service, our Daily Airborne Unlimited programming, our new 'Aero-Doc'documentary division, as well as other Aero-TV/Aero-Verse productions.
